Do you know what the Windrush journey is? - Storytime Scarves

Do you know what the Windrush journey is?

If not, you’re not alone. Many of us never learned this growing up.

The Windrush Generation refers to people from the Caribbean who arrived in the UK between 1948 and 1973, starting with the passengers of the HMT Empire Windrush, which docked at Tilbury in June 1948.

They were invited to help rebuild post-war Britain. They brought not just their skills, but also music, stories, food, family and strength.

Their legacy is woven into British life, but their stories aren’t always told in our classrooms.

I created the Windrush Rhythms Story Pack -to help children explore these stories through movement, colour, and open-ended play.

Let’s ensure the next generation grows up knowing the beauty and bravery behind this journey.
